The Rite of Spring, or its published name, "Le Sacre du Printemps", was originally written as a ballet by Igor Stravinsky in 1913. On the opening night of the ballet, the production, for its time, was so controversial that it caused a "terrific uproar", causing audience members to throw "everything available" at the orchestra and even audience members to attack each other. But, despite the circumstances, the performers continued to play on. Today, The Rite of Spring is a major instrumental work as well as a considerably well-known ballet. It is performed around the world in a variety of ensembles and in many different ways. So, with that being said...
