Bucket Gardening Potato Harvest, Bummer

So as I had kind of expected we did not have any type of a potato harvest, all I found were the mushy remains of the ones I had cut up and planted. However, here is how our tomatoes are doing. No fruit yet but I'm hoping they're going to do well eventually. Also since placing pieces of cardboard around the stem of the plant, I haven't seen any more bites taken out of the leaves! I haven't even...

One of My Passions: Crochet

I just wanted to show some pictures of the things I've crocheted that I adore. I took up crochet a year or two ago just because and learned what I know from youtube videos. Since then, I mainly crochet dolls, or amigurumi's, most of the people around me that crochet do blankets and baby stuff all the time. I'm hoping to open an etsy shop some day, since I have anxiety around people.Do you crochet?...

Raith

My new kitten Raith is doing well, he's eating and drinking as he should, but I hate forcing medicine in his mouth. Mum helps me give him his antibiotic twice a day, his probiotic once a day, and I alone give him his nose drops three times a day. I can still feel his spine and hip bones, which I mean I know I'll continue to feel them for a while, but it's still sad. I gave him a bath yesterday,...

Animal Shelters

I quit my job today, had it all of four days. I believe that's the shortest time I've ever had a job. The work is grueling, and I already knew that. You see, I had worked there before, several years ago under different ownership. Cleaning cat cages doesn't seem like it'd be difficult but it's very time consuming and you have to have your room/rooms presentable in three hours... Three hours does...

Exercise!

Well, sigh, I am disappointed that I couldn't do the 50 squats altogether, but oh well. I believe I may have been doing them slightly wrong anyway. For instance, I go down low enough (for my chunky butt), back straight, feet hip width apart, knee's strong and not bowing, however; I noticed that I don't stand completely straight up and squeeze my glutes, which is what I've read you're supposed to...

My Baby Pumpkin Died

Soooo I went outside to see my "garden,” the potatoes look good, though I have no idea if I'm going to get a harvest. The tomato plant has only one sprout, which has bites in three leaves, but it still seems to be growing under the new mini green house. When I decided to check on the pumpkin the vine looks like it is drying up in places and the little bump of a pumpkin fell off and it mushy. Oh...

Why Do I Want to Lose Weight?

Among the many excuses people put forth about wanting a better body, mine are sort of the same. I used to look good when I was 21, I think I was about 140lbs which was fine for me. I wasn't some skinny mini and I wasn't a chunky monkey either. But of course as the years went by, a failed relationship, then a marriage, then a failed marriage, you kind of gain some weight. I happened to gain 75lbs....

Accidental Pumpkin Vine

So those of you who have stuck with my bucket gardening blogs will know that I had said I kicked my melted jack o' lanterns into the rose bushes and low and behold one of them created life! So we've had this vine growing for, I don't know a month? Maybe a little over? I had been watering it off and on in the evenings just to see if I could get any pumpkins out of it. And with no prior knowledge of...

Bucket Gardening: Update

Alright well look at my potatoes! They seem like they're doing pretty good, I don't know what's going on underneath the soil, but the leaves look nice, haha. I added more soil today and watered them as well as spread some salt around the plants and sprayed them with the soap:water mixture. The addition of the soil allowed me to add the beer bottle of water in comfortably now. I just have to make...

Gardening Assistance

So my poor precious tomato sprouts are getting slaughtered! Every day I look at them and it seems like there are more bites taken from them. I sprayed a solution of some drops of liquid dish soap and water on them yesterday and then today after it had rained a bit. My next solution will be this recipe:~1 whole garlic bulb~2 cups of water~1 gallon of waterI got the recipe from this website: 12...

Bucket Gardening: Update

Here are our potatoes, this is after putting about 2 inches of soil in around the plants. The little one is still slightly lagging behind so I tried to leave it as uncovered as I could. Also I almost killed my basil! It got up to 95 I think and it wilted really bad. I brought the poor thing in and set it up by the kitchen window after watering it, still looks a bit wilted but it is much better,...

Bucket Gardening: Update Plus Basil!

Alright soooooo, I decided to take out the makeshift water globe, a.k.a. the beer bottle with water in it. Every time I checked it then put it back it would hit the large bricks I have at the bottom of the bucket so I thought I'd leave it out then just put it back when I add more soil. Speaking of more soil, I'm not sure when to add more. I read in a couple of articles that when the sprouts get to...

Bucket Gardening: Trying Something

Our plants are still looking good, I watered them today. It got up to about 97 degrees today, and I didn't wake until 3pm so I set the plants in partial sun then. I brought them back close to the front door after I got home from a Father's Day dinner with my Dad and family (8pm). I did water them at 3pm, though I know it's best in the evening or early morning hours. The Tomato sprouts are growing...

Bucket Gardening: New Update

Look, our tomato has sprouted! (It took six days):Also our potato sprouts are getting bigger, though I'm worried. I believe our rainy/flooding season is passing us for a bit and now mother nature is bringing the heat. It's supposed to be in the 90's for the next two weeks, and yes I do put them in the shade when I get up and about. They're on the porch at the moment which is covered, I mean the...

Bucket Gardening: Small Update

You guys it's only been roughly three days since planting and there's some growth, it's so cool!:Also on a different note, here is a picture of the pumpkin I accidentally began growing:It's raining again today, practically all day so I had to keep the plants by the door. They didn't get much sun it's been cloudy. The soil seems to be staying moist, I didn't water them today. That's pretty much all...

Bucket Gardening: The Set Up

My gardening adventure took off slower than I had originally anticipated, due to my mum not knowing where the drill charger was. However; that's okay because I had to cut up the potatoes I decided to use, they had multiple eyes! We then found bricks outside and broke them up a bit to place in the bottom of the buckets I drilled holes in:Then we put about 3-4 inches of garden soil into the buckets...

Bucket Gardening!?

So, I've spent literally HOURS searching online about raised bed gardening and I came across growing potatoes in trashcans. Trashcans! Mum and I went to the store today and got some 10 gal. buckets plus gardening soil (specifically for container gardening) and other little odds and ends. I'm so stoked! The only thing I've grown in my life, so far, I didn't really grow it, I just kept it alive. It...
