It actually depends on what type of story I want to write. If I want to write something dark and deppressive, I listen to music. I listen to the lyrics and something usually pops out at me.

Sometimes an idea randomly comes at me. I'll be standing in line at lunch staring at a hamburger and suddenly that triggers something in my brain (that's actually happened before ^__^).

A TON of things make me laugh: farts, people falling down, jokes that aren't really that funny, when my stomach makes wierd alien noises, when I'm really nervous, the fact that I'll probably never be able to hold something without dropping it... gawd, the list could go on and on.
