Making Believable story Settings

Have you ever read a story, where the setting is pretty much inconsistent, unmanageable, and not understandable in the least? Does it seem as if the characters in the story are just running around in random, ever-changing space that suits their needs and never seems to have any obstacles?( lol, I sound like some advertising voice on tv)Honestly though, I find that a lot of times when I'm writing,...

Story swaps and the end of Your world

Wouldn't it be somewhat of a bummer if the world actually ends in 2012? Especially for those who are just graduating or are nearing the peak of their lives. I mean, the world could supposedly end on this one day and I've apparently wasted my life stuck in high school. Not that I'm complaining, but it is something interesting to think about. Well at least I would have died young. :)Yay for story...

America, does it discourage you....

.... To know that fewer and fewer people are reading these days? I say America because this is where I live; in a place where absolutely none of my peers pick up a book unless ordered to, where reading is to nerds as ham is to piglets, where a book during lunch is the equivalent of scowls and snickers and comments of how "dry" your life must be.Prospective authors, does it doscourage you to know...

Coming up with 'Real' characters

Do you ever find yourself lacking the inspiration to come up with original characters? Has anyone ever mentioned that your characters are just another Mary-Sue?I get frustrated sometimes when I look at my characters, because I feel like they're so young in a way that their personalities haven't seemed to mature at all. They don't seem alive, like they couldn't be real people that you or I could...

AGH! I don't KNOW you people!

I never post journals anymore. I used to have so much to say, but it seems all the controversial topics of discussion have slipped to the the wayside. So now I've grayed and paled out as the rest of mibba's journaling world has....changed?Ehe, new things I've noticed since coming back here regularly is that every other journal topic says...."whoring"?What is this? Could someone explain? ^^;mmm,...

HELLO again, mibba. Coming back. :3

My my, I haven't been on this site in..almost a year? Maybe just a half? Who knows.I doubt anyone here knows me now anymore. So I don't expect anyone will bother posting on this journal. It's cool, it's cool.Well I've come back with a clear mind and many ideas for my writing. I'm thinking I'll start anew and take my writing in an entirely different, slightly less gory, direction (although maybe...

Rambling + Story Suggestions?

Goodness, when they advise you not to skip a day during NaNo, they where well spoken. I've skipped two days already and already I'm losing my drive. I must stop this madness! Hah, for once in my life, I would like to actually finish something I've started. I'm always that "halfway" person. I can't seem to commit and I can't seem to stay interested. NaNo this year isn't about that word count or...

lol, so I totally have a split personality

Has anyone ever noticed that most people who actually have split personalities don't up and shout it to the world? Most don't even know they have a split personality.I'm kind of annoyed today because all these girls in my school have suddenly dubbed themselves with serious mental disorders like schizophrenia, kleptomania, pyromania, and multiple personalities. They go around and giggle about it...

So. I'm 15 and getting a corset piercing.

yeupp. Technically, I'll be sixteen when I get it done, but its been promised to me today for my birthday. I asked my dad and showed him a picture of what they looked like and he seems cool with it. We went to a local Tattoo and Piercing shoppe and the guy said that as long as my dad signed off on it and was present when I got it done, he'd do it for me. I'm actually the first few that have asked...

lets all go topless and run wild

I really need to complain about this mibba. Has anyone else recently read about how, although Miley Cyrus was chastised for wearing a sheet and supposedly no shirt for a magazine about a year ago - that Disney guys (Taylor - I think his name is?) hasn't even been looked at twice for being topless for the new movie he's staring in?Although, I don't necessarily favor Miley Cyrus, I found it unfair...

How far do YOU go when planning a plot?

Do you just get a basic outline, without really getting into too much detail about the background? For people who write in realistic settings, they don't really need to go into too much detail about a setting that many people are already somewhat familiar with. But what about fantasy writers?*cough* mkay, not too many medieval fantasy writers here anyways, amiright? But say you do come up with a plot...

Concerning a guy's version of "love" and the relay of sweet nothings

Gosh. I could laugh in this guy's face right now. I was in first period, passing notes to my guy friend even though we where sitting right by each other. And just so you get a mental picture of what he's like, I'll tell you that he's a good for nothing dog with three different girlfriends (none of them know about each other) and a knack for doing everything wrong on purpose. He's the kind of guy...

MY FIRST MOSHPIT GUYS! :D

Guess where it was?In the school hallway. It was effin' beast. So there I was, walking to my fourth period class. There's an intersection in our school that connects four hallways - and one coincidentally leads from the cafeteria and another from the gym. Yeah, whoever came up with that idea wasn't too bright.Well, yeah. Fourth period, and all of a sudden everyone just stops. Most of the people in...

So. I'm fake because I'm happy.

Mibba, I've been feeling ridiculously happy lately. So happy in fact, that I wake up with a smile and appreciate simple things like how much sunlight is in my room or the song my alarm clock woke me up with that day. I've been conversational and optimistic and just...the overall nice person I've been wanting to be. Finally.I've been smiling so much these days that my cheeks literally hurt very...

ignorant jerks who take FREE help for granted

This isn't to anyone on here in particular. And I'm not putting names out there for fear that it'll probably be against the rules. .-.But I just want to say that I'm sick and tired of the jerks I've had to deal with that take the free art and writing requests (I help out with comics and a few animation scripts) for granted. They bug me endlessly about getting it done before the damn deadline, and...

Holy Fudge; Three person relationships

I'm not really asking for your opinions on the subject, but I guess when posting something like this, hearing someone else's opinions are inevitable.So. Onward. :]Well, today marks my one-year anniversary of a relationship with my boyfriend. And when he called me to tell me that this morning I was stoked that he remembered. So, day goes on as usual. Plans for movies and stuff are made. blah blah...

Age is but a Number

I'm tired of people blaming their talent or "lack" of talent on their age. I don't see it on mibba very often, but in real life I see and hear it more than I'd like to. I'm getting the feeling that some people aren't giving themselves the chance to do better because they think they'll eventually get better when they "grow up".I'm sorry but talents and skills don't necessarily come with age. It...

Sorry but I don't care about your problems. :]

You know, I've been thinking a bit here and I feel like there are a lot of people (though of course not everyone) who act like they care when you tell them about your problems. I mean, it's so painstakingly obvious that they're just being nice and trying not to trample your feelings to a pulp when they keep nodding and saying "Yeah...I'm so sorry you had to go through that..." and the way their...

My Writing Technique {"in 4 easy cheesy steps!" }-- eOe

I've always found that reading about other people's writing techniques helps me to better organize my own writing and brainstorming styles. Tonight, I'm proud to say that I've finally come up with a writing technique that suits me and is easy for me to follow. I figure if I post my techniques, it'll help some other people who are stumped about how to get their ideas off the ground. This obviously...

Concerning the tedious job of "researching" for your story...

Wow.Just.Wow.Usually I'm the type of person that sides along with the others that say they can't stand a story that shows there was little or no research put into it. And - don't get me wrong here - I still stand by the opinion that a good story has to be about something you understand. But today, as I'm sitting here writing up a plot for my next big project, I've found that doing something? Yeah,...
