About

Hello mibbians, here's a very long, rambling explanation about me and the things I have unhealthy obsessions over.

I love obscure pop music from the mid 1980s to today, which is often referred to as twee pop, anorak pop, P!O!P, or guitar pop. I think I'm the only popkid on mibba. Aren't I special. If you're curious as to what a popkid is, click here . My taste in books is the antithesis of the music I listen to. Where anorak pop is sweet, naive and very pretty, pulp fiction mysteries are cynical, mean and explore the ugly side of humanity. I'm trying to write an original crime fiction story, -or should I say finish. I have three in the works and all incomplete!- but my attention is constantly being diverted by something else and I'll lose interest in writing from time to time (This is more commonly referred to as ADHD and it's damn annoyin'). Hopefully I'll stay interested in a story long enough to post it on Mibba.

Easier said than done.

The main distraction keeping me from writing is my love for classic movies. I'm a certified TCM addict. I'm always tuned into that channel. My former classic movie obsession was with the 1957 musical, Funny Face. It has faded away, although not completely. My Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire wallpaper still remains, as a homage to the fashionable film. The obsession has been exchanged for a new one with actress Katharine Hepburn and her movies. I absolutely adore her, especially when she’s teamed up with Cary Grant Image- my all time favourite actor. They're madly entertaining when paired together. They’ve acted in four fabulous films together that I just love; Sylvia Scarlett, Holiday, Bringing Up Baby and The Philadelphia Story. Lately I've been fixated on Bringing Up Baby. Mostly because TCM keeps playing it so often. Once I know it's on I have to watch it and everytime I watch it, I fall more in love with its silliness. Also one of my favourite, shambling, twee pop bands Talulah Gosh made a song about the movie, which I can't get out of my head.

Cary Grant on Katharine Hepburn: "She was this slip of a women and I never liked skinny women. But she had this thing, this air you might call it, the most totally magnetic women I'd ever seen, and probably ever seen since. You had to look at her, you had to listen to her, there was no escaping her."
Where Spencer Tracy cut Katharine down to size Cary Grant lifted her up to dizzying heights. I can't get enough of their playful energy. When you get to the end of this clip you'll see what I mean, when I say, no one can lift Katharine up as high as Cary Grant- absolutely no one.

Here are some more scenes from my favourite classic movies. Click the titles to see them.

I think I'm my own person. I also think I have traits in common with other people. I'm a bit of a paradox. Here are some famous people I'm like, according to some fun quizzes:

Your result for The Classic Dames Test by gidgetgoes ...

Katharine Hepburn
You scored 26% grit, 19% wit, 38% flair, and 29% class!

You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.
(I didn't cheat to get this result, honest. The reason for my obsession with Katharine Hepburn is because I see myself in her. She’s like the very best version of myself that I try to aspire.)

And because I was curious about what kind of leading man I'd be- you know if I was a man

Humphrey Bogart
You scored 33% Tough, 10% Roguish, 33% Friendly, and 24% Charming!

You're the original man of honor, rough and tough but willing to stick your neck out when you need to, despite what you might say to the contrary. You're a complex character full of spit and vinegar, but with a soft heart and a tender streak that you try to hide. There's usually a complicated dame in the picture, someone who sees the real you behind all the tough talk and can dish it out as well as you can. You're not easy to get next to, but when you find the right partner, you're caring and loyal to a fault. A big fault. But you take it on the chin and move on, nursing your pain inside and maintaining your armor...until the next dame walks in. Or possibly the same dame, and of all the gin joints in all the world, it had to be yours. Co-stars include Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall, hot chicks with problems.
(I found it very amusing when I got this result because the first story I ever wrote from a male perspective had me making up a character with the same voice and traits as Bogie's. It could be because I watched about five of his movies for the first time that week, but I like to think my male alter ego is Humphrey Bogart.)
