I'm sorry you feel that way about being a writer. Though, I don't see why you make it appear so horrid yet you say you love it? I think you should have an optimistic outlook or you'll be miserable :)
In my eyes, it isn't lonely. I write whenever I'm not doing school work. I have friends I talk to and still hang out with. We are writers and are in this huge writer's club at school and we all share our things and don't belittle anyone. There is only constructive, honest criticism.
Yes, that isn't in the real world, but I don't see how anyone could be bothered by negativity unless they let it bother them. Whether that be from an "opposing author" or just a reader. I also don't see how it is lonely when there is plenty of time to hang with friends or meet new people. I am drowning in school work due to AP classes, yet I find time. I think you should even find time if you are out of school. If not, that means you are in school and are still among people to speak to :)
I am in a creative writing course at university, where we are taught/tutored by published and well established authors. I love them all, and I am never alone, I love being able to talk to them about writing, and I love the fact that they actually understand what I am on about - but still, being a writer is, in my opinion, very lonely - because when it all comes down to it, it's only you and your character left. but i do love it. honestly.
