Exactly; I find it hard not to overthink poetry but sometimes it just flows.

I find that some of the best (emotional) works are those in which little thought has been put into -- if you speak from your heart it tells a lot more of your emotional state as you aren't thinking as critically over your word choice. You say what you need to say, you know?

Thank-you! It was never something I put a lot of thought into at the time, I think it was just a way for me to vent some raw emotions that I didn't feel like they were affecting me greatly at the time. But looking back, they really were.

What a beautiful poem! I'm a sucker for short, well-written pieces that convey a story with an emotional gut punch and yours definitely delivers.

The three line stanzas set up a beautiful narrative, with the contrast between you being a baby and a "big girl now" obvious through the sentence structure and repetition of the first and second stanza, compared to the third which breaks from the pattern. Your finishing line ties up the poem nicely, while serving the gut punch -- "because some things never change" (which implies, from the use of "think" that you, like your mother, don't love your father).

It's a relatable poem and the reader can sympathise and empathise with you.

From a technical standpoint, your grammar and spelling all check out! A lovely poem, thank you for entering this piece!
