Waiting Widow

The sun was glimmering into the open room
My sweetheart was coming today, I hoped
The way his silver eyes and golden hair lit up a room,
Even on his most depressing days

If only he knew how much I missed him
I missed his touch and his warmth when I was down
Now he was coming to see me
In the house we called home with yellow siding

There was never a time I doubted you,
But now, I am doubting you will ever show up
You’ve never been late and now I wait in the house
If only you knew how much you’re hurting me

Then I heard a car and ran to the window
A silver Mercedes parked in my driveway
A man in all green came up to my door,
And my fears were confirmed

You died in the war, leaving me a widow
We had three kids together and now you’re gone
Tears drench my clothes and you’re children don’t know
If only I could see you one last time, my love
