A Monster's Bedtime Story

Listen to this rhyme,
It will only take a little time,
I made it to explain,
What one day brought me pain.

Quietly, I screamed,
For my mom and dad,
When they came, I told them,
“There’s something beneath my bed!”

They said they’d take a look,
And told me not to worry,
If they saw a monster,
They’d retreat in a dreadful hurry.

First they pulled out my Teddy Bear,
Bare beyond all belief,
He beared his bareness nicely,
Though he looked like he needed relief.

Next came my doll, Raggedy Ann,
Coated and covered in dust,
All of the secrets I told her,
Like of friends and my candy lust.

After that, many more followed,
Like super balls that bounced no more,
The fact that a monster would hide there,
Just shook me to the core.

My parents continued to search,
For the reason for my fear,
But they continued to find nothing,
Until they stopped, in fear.

They yelled at me in silence,
Once they had gotten over their scare,
It seemed so silly that I had been afraid,
Of a silly little mirror!

I bowed my head in shame,
My fear had been because I could not see,
And worse I woke them from a dead sleep,
Just because of me!
