Roads Less Traveled

A rough crack ripples down the pavement
A black trickle against black streets
Yellow lines fade into pastels and disappear by day
And rain pelts the ground and seeps away
The ending is strewn with rocks and pebbles
A dirt path that meets road, leading endlessly to nowhere
Lost voices speak of better days
But are hardly ever listened to
For their soft melody caresses the trees
That bend and sway in the breeze
A heart only dear enough to listen
Rests only in those who care
But few tend to pass through and give an ear to those there
The roads less traveled are tucked away by the brush
Open your eyes and take a look
At everything that's been silenced to a hush
