Bombstorm

Bombstorm

The sun sets quickly
as if it too fears the coming storm
we scan the sky uneasily
waiting for the sirens to warn

tensions rise, imminent threat
little sleep tonight we will get
close the curtains and wait in the dark
tonight the bombstorm comes again

the sirens break the silence
confirming all of our fears
we race to the safe shelter
as the fierce death shower nears

huddled in the darkness
hearing the faraway roar
of enemy planes approaching
who with deadly plague soar

they fill the sky with thunder
a violent storm at night
dropping bomb after bomb
explosions make a path of light

the bombstorm lasts for hours
every second marked with fright
we cringe in the shelter
and prepare for tomorrows sight

emerging in the morning
our eyes widen in shock
we survey the damage
buildings reduced to bits of rock

the destruction carves a path
tracing a planes course
through the once unharmed city
showing no remorse

gathering our lives
from where they lay on the street
thankfull we survived
another day to greet.
