Broken

She threw in the stones,
The only thing left tying him to her
And the water splashed back at her in frustration
How dare she penetrate their peaceful abode?

As the water lashed out at her tears
She remembered
How peaceful he must have been
He was sleeping when it happened
the flames licking around him
Silence and then tranquility

No more pain, no more sadness
Just the simple stains left on her broken heart
Never had she thought that fire
Her only fear
could be so soft, so deadly
At a time of utmost danger
And how the water could be so mean
She was only trying to forget
