and with the axe we shall fall

Our trunk grew from the ground thirty feet tall
As my hands grew in to branches and leaves began to fall
My ten fingers turned into flowers as your hands intertwined with mine
Our branches grew and reached the sky
We touched the stars and our branches seemed to fly
Our fingers danced along the light as we wrapped around the pending stars and made a heart
We fit inside perfectly, our bodies bending, our branches curving

But then we stopped to grow
Because space ran out and there was nowhere else to go.
Our leaves and flowers coiled back
Past the stars and planets
Until we made it back to our sky
Then we shrank as quickly as taking a breath
And the whole tree seemed to disappear
And next to the wilting tree lay an axe
And there was no more you and me
