So Tell Me, "Best Friend"

You said you’d be there,
Where are you now?
How could you leave me
And join the crowd?

I’m all alone,
Why’d you leave?
You said you’d be there,
And now I’m unseen.

You promised to protect me
And now you’re inflicting pain.
I know I’m practically worthless,
But a promise is a promise all the same.

So tell me, “best friend”
What it really means,
To be so hurt,
You can’t even scream?

So tell me, “best friend,”
Why are you so great?
Please tell me, “best friend”
What makes my problems so fake?

Since you’re so smart,
So knowing-- so WISE,
Please tell me, “best friend”,
What’s wrong with my eyes?

Why am I fighting back tears,
As I’m writing this poem about you?
Why is it one of my fears,
To move on in life without you?

Please tell me, Oh Dearest “best friend,”
Why I’m so pathetic, so hurting.
Please tell me, “Best friend”
Why my scars are becoming so bad,
So much deeper and harder to mend?

I wish you could see.
I really, truly do.
I wish you could see,
How much I hate you.
