A Soldier At War

Say what you feel, I'll swallow my pride,
talk about every last soldier who died.
The bombs all came falling, all crashing down.
Killing those innocent people in town.
The church isn't safe, the children have guns
The men driving tanks that weigh so many tons.
I'll rise from my house, I won't die in vain.
When it comes to war, I don't play your games.

I'll try my hardest, get through the worse.
The part I hated most was watching the hearse
My family has gone, my friends had to leave.
All of them vanished, found under a tree.
I promised them all, I'd do the right thing.
Get in that air plane and quietly sing.
Holding rosery tight, I pray to the lord.
I know in the end, it's worth the reward.

The battle was tough, my vests too heavy.
The dust in my eyes, I can barely see.
Out in the distance, an enemy laughs.
Takes out his gun, pulls the trigger, and blasts.
I fly into a wall, screaming in pain
I thought I should stop, but I won't refrain.
My patriotism was so hard to gain
I had so many thoughts I just could not explain.

I closed my eyes once, I was up in the sky.
I thought I was dreaming, or this was a lie.
I saw all the people in crying dispearse.
That's when it hit me, I saw my own hearse.
Watching from clouds, looking over the war
A whole new point of view I never had before.
It was so pointless, what would we gain?
killing people thought evil just to entertain?

It all sickens me, this wasn't the same.
So I guess in the end, I still died in vain.
