Painful Day.

I awake to the twigs,
pounding on my window like rocks.
I twist and turn in the bed,
the numbers flicker on the clock.

Tick tock, tick tock,
the minutes float away.
Space has caught them in its grasp,
there's nothing left to say.

I swing my legs over the bed,
still fighting off the fatigue.
I take a large drag from my cigarette,
it's getting hard to breathe.

When day breaks,
it's the first glimpse of dawn I see.
I roll my head around on my neck,
another painful day awaits me.
