One of the Ignored

I take my seat, ready to work
I am early, but no one seems to notice
They don’t go to me, but walk right past me
Is this how it will always be?

Wait I think someone’s coming, do they see me?
No, they turn away from me; they do not walk to me
Is it because they view me as too young and naïve?
Is it because my voice is not booming?

I sit back down, in the seat where I’m ignored
I put on a brave face, but inside I’m scared and confused
I ask myself why they ignore me
Yet I think I already know the answer

Is it because they think I am I child?
I am wise beyond my years.
Is it because they wish to speak to an adult?
Adults are nothing but mere children.

Adults ignore us; they don’t realize what they do
They speak for equality between men and women,
What about the equality between children and teens?
What about the equality between teens and adults?

Is it because they think I am incompetent?
I am more efficient then they are.
I only know not one thing; I only ask one question
Why? Why is the world so cruel?

Most adults are hypocrites, have they not seen this yet?
I am only fourteen yet I see it everyday
When was the last time you believed in someone younger than you?
When was the last time you valued their opinion?

I am young, but I am strong; I am tall and proud
I am quiet, but I have sharp eyes
They think I don’t notice, but I see everything
Children are wise; they have the imagination most people lack

They are innocent and see what most people ignore
Their eyes are sharp; they see what you do not wish them to see
They are the true elders of the world
Yet you put them down, crush their imagination

This is what the world has come to
There is not imagination; people are ignored
Where do I stand in all of this?
I am one of the ignored; yet still I stand tall, strong, and proud
