And we all fall down

I will fall like rain.
I will fall like leaves.
I will fall for you.
I will fall.

We will sleep like the dead,
who rest in peace that we've never quite achieved.
Thought after thought dances through my head,
and the ballerina's ankles are breaking.
As one child is born, another is dying.
As I laugh, you are far away,
As you laugh, you are lying.
How could I laugh like this?

He sleeps, tosses, turns, with the weight of the world on his chest.
She lies next to him, none the wiser.
They sleep in painted masks, actors put put to thier best.
They are close enough to touch, but nothing more than flesh.

We will fall like rain.
We will fall like leaves.
We will fall like ashes.

The snow is melting for Spring,
and hope sprouts out of the ground.
Hold on tightly to my hand.
And we will all fall down.
