My Mistake

It was my mistake to let you in,
I allowed you to penetrate my very soul.
Taking over my life, you were my biggest sin.
Never once did you return my feelings,
All you did was let me fall deeper,
Into this abyss they call unrequited love.
And even though I tried to leave you be,
the thought of you always haunted me.
Subconsciously, you were there
But when I needed you, you abandoned me,
Like a baby left on a doorstep.

But I'm not that boy you thought I was,
I saw through your shield of denial.
I overcame your loving nonsense,
Realizing you were, in fact, my biggest mistake.
The most ideal mistake one could make.
Not accepting is your greatest quality,
And you flaunt it at will, with bliss at that.
And whilst being my misfortune,
I've acquired the knowledge that falling
Is only right if he is willing to catch you.
You were my biggest mistake, my best mistake.
