Such a Pretty Act

Upon arrival, a quick survey tells you all you need to know
A judgment is cast, but you don't let the verdict show
However, in a moment's glance, your eyes reveal yourself

Twisting your words to form such a casual comment
You keep a straight face to hide what you really meant
But, oh!, beware the condescending tone: your ultimate give away

Then comes the dinner party's repetitive routine
Silently you're watching to see if we know this scene
With a dissatisfied click of the tongue, you lie through your teeth

With fibs of affection, the charade comes to an end
Bidding us a bitter sweet farewell, you promise to come again
You waltz away, ready for a new role to play;;
