C'est Mon Espoir

If I could have one wish, it would not be for your love;
I would restrain myself from asking for such a precious thing.
Yes, I have said more than enough that I dreamed for your love,
But know tampering with your heart is as forcing a bird to sing.

If I could have one wish, it would not be for your body;
I would retain both dignity and respect on your behalf.
Though there is no doubting the attraction, I would not dream to taint your body,
For to defile one as lovely as you is to split the sun in half.

If I could have one wish, it would not be for our future;
I would remain, rather, ignorant to how our lives are to play out.
Though I would long to know what is in store, or if us two have a future,
I dare not dream to know the outcome and have this fire doused.

But if I could have one wish, I would wish solely for your happiness;
And I would remove all love, longing, and lust from all of my thoughts.
Yes, you know you have brought me joy, and I want forevermore for happiness;
Nothing more than your elation, no matter what the cost.
