Uncle Sam

Bullets streak through the desert air.
The mission they have been given just might kill.
Many will fall, many will live.
Through the danger, they continue still.

Families are at home, crying for them.
Letters and pictures will never be enough.
They hide their pain and their tears.
But disguising their anguish is oh-so-tough.

They are far from the country they've been sent to serve.
They knew the chances of having to protect innocent lives.
Their motivation is neither money nor glory.
It is to see the adoration in their families' eyes.

They can hardly wait to go back home.
See their children, parents, sisters and brothers.
Memories are clear in that dangerous Hell.
They know they are depended on by millions of others.

Uncle Sam is the executioner, sentencing them.
But they will never dare to appoint the blame.
These soldiers have given up everything they have.
They have sacrificed all in Lady Liberty's name.
