Carousel

We rose to our feet,
After the last time we fell,
And took one more ride,
Upon the Carousel.

After a full rotation,
We're back where we started,
Barely recognising,
This was where we parted.

Our horses throw us,
And we hit the dirt.
Our wounds are fresh,
But we remember the hurt.

Your sweet words pick me off the ground,
And lead me to a fake horse,
Saying this one's real,
Even though it travels the same course.

We go round again,
Thinking it'll be different this time,
But as we follow the fixed axis,
I hear the familiar chime.

With the thrill of the journey,
We forget the pain,
So we can feel the joy,
Before it has to wane.

Constantly spinning,
This connection I can't sever.
Am I doomed to ride,
On this Carousel forever?
