Followed Him

It’s cold outside,
But yet here I sit.
Wasting away,
Hoping for someone to save me.

I think back to earlier that day,
I’d been teaching my sister.
Teaching her how to play,
Play the piano.

When Momma and Poppa walked in,
They came in with a furious vengeance.
Tearing my world apart,
Causing everything to go black.

I awoke in a hospital bed,
Rosabelle crying over my broken body.
My broken body,
Disgusting gross thing.

Now I see,
I see why Momma and Poppa never liked me.
I was ugly,
Too ugly for them that they hated me.

I signed myself out,
Left Rosabelle in the care of my aunt.
Saying I loved her,
And went on my way.

She thought I hated her,
She cried as I left.
She doesn’t I know,
That I left because I love her.

So I’m waiting,
Waiting for the man to come and save me.
Suddenly light is in my eyes.

“Are you alright Miss?”
I looked into his face.
It was kind and sweet,
Full of concern for me.

“Not yet,
But I will be.”
And I took his hand,
And followed him.
