Blood Letter

open the package
peer inside
what you see is quite a surprise
take out the paper
slowly unfold
the words on the paper are a sight to behold
read the letter
the penstrokes in blood
your heart hits the floor with an earth-moving thud
shove through the door
a race against time
a tear escapes are you run with only one thing in mind
burst into the house
no time to explain
the parents think you've misplaced your brain
they follow you now
into her room
they stop dead in their tracks as your heart starts to zoom
the silence is broken
glass-breaking scream
you wake up panting to find it was only a dream
a movement beside you
fingers graze your cheek
turn over to find
her wrists starting to leak
