Oddly Complete

Wind blows through my auburn hair
and leaves gather to my feet.
The sky is as dark as my cold heart
reminds me that I'm alone again.

Clock strikes one AM
as I begin to hum
to the lullabies of the passing birds.
It fills my heart with warmth again.
The first time since I don't know when.

And I feel oddly complete
as I stand amidst the evergreens.
Birds are secretly singing,
when they should be asleep
dreaming in their homely nests.
Maybe they're singing just for me?

Lying in the autumn grass
the gathered leaves
make a comforting bed
and I welcome sleep graciously.

Clock strikes two AM
as I drift off to sleep
listening to the peaceful ocean waves.
Pictures of rainbows in the sky
telling me that it'll be okay.

And I feel oddly complete
as I lie amidst the evergreens.
Birds are secretly singing
when they should be asleep
dreaming in their homely nests.
And yet they're singing just for me.

...Because somehow they know
just what I need.
