Remembering Purple

Silence pounds out a
Brazen timpani beat
Louder than anything ever was
To the human ear

I reach into my pocket
Find a crumpled I love you
Between dried out yellow petals

Eyes slither open for the first time
See a thumb in a mouth
See a face lost in hands
See eyes lost in eyes

A lullaby slides sinuously
Through thin air
As my breath flutters away
Onto the wings of a butterfly

A mosquito sails on wind
Touches down on my arm
I only gaze
And remember you

Significant
But subtle
With only a small shred of pain

The sky disappears
Engulfed in a frenzy
Of innocence
Of memories

A beautiful purple haze.
