The Night Traveler

The light from the street post,
reflects off the yellow leaves on the trees,
making the frosty winter night,
seem darker through my eyes,

Tracking foot steps imbedded in the snow,
not towards their destination,
but to where their journey began,
walking their path,
wondering how they saw it,
knowing how I see it,
It's like having a bond with someone whom i'll never meet,

A new path emerges,
a different person's trail,
a new direction,
a new location,

The light glistening off the snow,
laying perfectly contrite on the branches,
is something we've all seen,
me and the ones who passed here before me,
the smoke off the chimneys,
the grey sky,
Illuminate the faint trees,
bring out the beauty of the night,

The shadows that cover the bleakness of winter,
reign over my path,
covering the park in the night,
a blanket over the earth,
keeping things hidden from sight,

The footsteps that took me along my journey,
have faded away in all different directions,
I walk in blank snow,
untouched by anyone else,
creating my own path for someone to follow,
for someone to wonder where i was going,
or what i was seeing as i walked,
what my point of view would be,

I see my destination now,
the end of my travels,
and with me i bring more than which i started,
my points of view,
and the thoughts about the stranger's,
and they'll always be mine to hold.
