Helpless and Unknowing

Innocently crawling around without a care,
Not even yet having a head of hair.
Only seeing the fun side of life,
Without even putting a finger on a knife.

Just starting to walk and talk,
And maybe even scribbling with chalk.
Not knowing about any cutting words,
Just thinking about the colourful birds.

You can't warn them about the pain ahead,
Nor can you protect them from suffering you wed.
None of us asked for this so called gift called life,
Yet young or old we have to endure it like being man and wife...
