Rainy Day Afternoon

As I sit here searching for inspiration,
My body is overflowing.
The tissues pile up
And the sneezes explode unceasingly
While the TV blares,
My only distraction from my misery.

The weather is rainy, the room is dark.
My eyes are sleepy, my lids are droopy
As I look at the vibrant flowers through the window shade's shadow.
The tall lamp serves as the only source of light;
I stare at it as I lay on the couch
Willing that one tiny light to flicker out.

The game is over.
The TV is off.
My ears perk at the noisy sound of silence.
I turn over to face the wall
The light finally flickers out
As I drift off to a peaceful sleep.
