Hidden Depth

I felt empty inside,
There was no meaning in my life.
Not a life- more of an existence,
Drifting from one day to another,
Blinded from the never-ending darkness.
In the constant sea of black, I drowned in my own ignorance.

That was before you came along,
The phoenix was reborn through you.
Rising from the ashes in the darkest pit
Of this doom.
It soared high above me,
Blazing a trail of golden light
In its wake.

I finally knew what it meant to see, to love.

But now you have gone.
I am left in this cold empty place,
The once majestic phoenix has returned to its state of ash.
It will soar again,
If I ever fell the love you had for me come back.

You have left me broken and on my own.
Without the phoenix,
Whose warm glow i long to feel on my skin.
I choose for you not to see how messed up I am inside.
I have ironed out the surface,
In an effort to protect myself.
I wear a smile on my face,
My only aim is to fool you
Into believing I am ok.
You don't care how I feel on the inside,
So, I rid myself of that vulnerability.

Cracks slowly begin to form,
Appearing around the edges.
Only to reveal my inner depth,
That I have hidden from you for so long.
