Journey to Begin

I hope to be done, but I have yet to begin.
I can't follow this course of life if I truly want to win.
I have begun the journey of a thousand hands.
Plotting heel to toe, with my mark in the sand.

Soon I see that putting palm to dirt, leaves a mark.
When stepping in sand does not one part.
How can I begin moving past my troubles, if I have barely begun?
You tell me to dig my heels in and then I'll have won.

However, I can't understand this wiry path.
Suddenly it has changed to cobble and stone, but I know it won't last.
How do I forgo this challenge when I am no wiser than you?
You tell me that can not be, but I see it as true.

A man who has walked the journey of cynicism.
And brazed past the storm of hate.
Can say they have wisdom.
Yet, I have bones to taint.

I fear to step upon this dirt beneath this path of stone or sand.
If I choose to leave a mark, will fear paralyze me like I know it can?
Yet, in order to find myself, to find the wisdom in me.
I need to make a mark, so not only I can see.

I can only win, if I choose to begin.
But, I see that I have not yet begun.
I've followed the path of many, when none of them have won.

They are they and I am, I.
I can't follow their path, I can't be them inside.

I can't fear this journey so I will take your advice in hand.
“To have begun is to be half done;
dare to be wise; begin!”

I can assure my friend, I will take a stand.
