A young dancer.

I am a young dancer, learning the steps of life.
I wonder if I will ever get this down to memory.
I hear the music, which cues me in.
I see myself making mistakes that will show no matter what.
I want to be perfect, but that will never happen.
I am a young dancer, learning the steps of life.

I pretend that I am the best, even though I know there are many that are better out there.
I feel crushed when I don’t do something right.
I touch my old and worn-out dance shoes and remember the past.
I worry that no one will come and see me do what I love to do.
I cry when I know I could have done better.

I understand that I’m not perfect.
I say that everyone should dance like they mean it.
I dream of being one of the best dancers in the country.
I try to dance my best through every day.
I hope that I will see that being perfect isn’t everything.
