Worth It

I put my head to your chest,
Hear your heart beating.
My bones vanish,
And I can only feel
My stomach.
As it flutters with butterflies struck by lightning.
"Worth it."

I get cold when I think of you.
My blood turns to ice,
Exciting and anxious.
Warm when you're around-
Warm from your breath,
Your touch and acceptance.
"Worth it."

"I don't want to wait..."
Our lips chaffed by October's wind,
But electricity runs dry.
Your hand pressed to my jaw
As you pull me in
And I melt.
"Worth it."

We procrastinate the night away.
"Call the ride after this song."
"Well...the next one."
"One more.."
A gentle game of stop and go.
I don't care if I pay the price.
"Worth it."

That price I don't tell you-
Not in all honesty.
But as I wash away my makeup,
And drown beneath the sheets,
I twirl that ring around my finger,
As I replay every moment in my head.
"Worth it."

I'll be honest about this,
Because I know it's true:
You don't have to return it,
Just know,
I love you.
You're more than worth it.
