The Devil's Music

Soon, the Devil’s music plays
Loud against my ear,
And, when the Devil’s music plays,
I’m sure to shed a tear.

This music went against me,
‘Twas an affront to my God, so clear,
But you were all different,
Gentle and caring and nothing to fear…

So, I knew and stepped into the noose,
As you led me along the path,
And, always, Devil’s music played,
And it always made you laugh.

Then I knew who you were,
An embodiment of this beast,
But I would turn and bow to you
With no shame in the least.

Constantly I saw you
(There was no more hell than this),
The goddess with the poison lips
That I would never kiss.

Always did I think of you;
Your beauty racked my brain,
And I thought I was in love with you,
‘Till the love began to wane…

I think you’d rather changed -
You never were the same -
But your beauty failed to rack my brain,
And the love? ...it never came.

Still, you were the same person,
You were still just as kind…
Bang! I couldn’t forget your face!
Love shot through my mind!

Constantly I see you
(And there is no more hell than this).
You’re the goddess with the poison lips
That I will never kiss.

Still I’ll kiss your picture, though;
It’s as close as I can get;
You’re beautiful and wonderful,
And I’m not beaten yet.

Yet, you know my artistic skill,
With words in such design,
To know the settings (not the characters),
Were only inventions of mine.
