Someone Like You (Ocean Blue)

I'm standing in one place,
Arms at my sides because I've nowhere to go.
I see nothing but rolling concrete
And my heads pounding from being stuck so long in the undertow.

I take a deep breath and take step closer to the edge,
Wind rustling my hair as I close my eyes.
Today is a new day,
And I plan to get rid of this past with a dive.

So I fall into the ocean with my eyes wide open,
And I watch the way the sun glints through the waves.
I reach for the light and for land,
But fall short of the day.

I swim to the top but never seem to make it.
My lungs are struggling for air as I scream for help.
Nobody hears me, and so I drown,
Yet my heart keeps beating even after I fell.

For so long I sat on the ocean floor,
Tears mixing into the waters of the day.
I called out to someone, anyone,
But nobody came.

Years flew by as well as hopeless thoughts,
And then I blinked to find a man before me.
He gave me his hand and pulled us together.
My lungs burst over with disbelief.

The air touched my face and then my throat
As I felt the fresh air for the first time.
I looked at the man and asked, “How'd you find me?”
The man said, “I just followed your tide.”

On shore we stood in hand in hand,
And that's when I looked at him and said,
“I've spent so long thinking I was dead,
That's it's hard to believe in what you meant.”

The man kissed my forehead and replied,
“I've been searching for you my whole life,
And I didn't think to look towards the night.
I'm sorry it took so much time.”

I smiled and pressed my hand to his cheek.
“I'd wait an eternity of sleep just to have you with me.”
