Fly Away

Running. Faster, Faster. The trees and plants blur, melting into a canvas of green and brown. Heart racing, fear has taking over. Branches seem to grab your hair, thorns cut your skin and dress.

Running. Faster, Faster. You hear him behind you, pursuing you. Screaming your name. Your heart beats faster. Fear takes over.

Running. Faster, Faster. You trip and stumble to the ground. A stick pierces your hand. You pull it out, blood flowing down your hand. You get up and run again.

Running. Faster, Faster. He is gaining, the distance becoming less and less. A sob escapes your lips. Tears flow down your dirty face. He can’t get to you, not again. You won’t let it happen.

Running. Faster, Faster. You plead with the Gods to let you get away. To get away from his torture. To get away from the pain. To live another day.

Running. Faster, Faster. You break through the trees, a clearing. You sob. Freedom at last?

Stop!

A giant cliff lays before you. You stare over the edge, the water is far below. You cry. This is the end, He has won. You turn towards the trees, waiting for him to come out.

Heart racing. Faster, Faster. Your heart stops. He emerges from the trees like a shadow. His grin foreshadows pain to come. His eyes wild with the lust for your pain. You cry.

No! He can’t win. You smile, one last hopeful smile. Maybe you can fly away, like an angel. You are at the edge, he looks so confused at you. Why are you smiling? You raise your arms and lean backwards.

Falling. Faster, Faster. You stare up at the edge, quickly getting further and further away. You stare at the sky, knowing that you were flying to heaven now. You smile an angelic smile, right before your body hits the water.

Dying. Faster, Faster. You feel life slowly flowing from your veins. You see the light from the sky through the blue water surrounding you. You smile as you feel yourself fly away.

Rising. Faster, Faster. You fly towards the peace you never knew.
