Victim No Longer

She walked like she was in no hurry,
she talked like there was no pain,
but in her heart she knew that it would never be the same.

She ran away from home,
never looking back,
not knowing that her strength and mind she'd slowly start to lack.

Not knowing where to go,
only wanting to get away,
from all that she's endured,
the suffering, the pain.

Her father beat her up,
his excuse was that he was drunk.
He believed she could not feel,
or just believed that she could deal.

But she was not immortal,
she always felt the pain,
her suffering was always her hostile father's gain.

She was tired of the screaming,
her reality,
all she really wanted was a family
in which she was dreaming.

With their smiling and laughing and hospitality.
But instead she was left with this brutality,
living a life of a child's tragedy.

Now she is leaving all her silent screams,
to go where she dares,
to pursue her unfulfilled dreams,
to find someone who cares.

Moving forward to a better life,
she held her head high,
determined to survive.

She would not let him win,
instead she'd go and find her long- awaited safe haven.

A faint light of courage finally came through,
and she would no longer allow herself to be abused.
