I Thought I'd Learned That Lesson Once Before

I thought I'd learned the lesson once before,
Thought I'd set it aside & learned from my failed tries.
Turns out I'm still a gold fish swimming in circles once more;
Turns out I'm still not adult enough to handle the tide.

I thought I was invincible just because I was so happy,
Thought I'd never get caught in the act.
Turns out I'm still learning the rules of the highway;
Turns out I'm still on my learner's permit.

I know I messed up, & that's where I want to show I've grown.
I know what I did was wrong, so I just thought I'd let you see that.
I'm not making any excuses this time, because I want you to know
That I am learning, just not as hard or as fast.

I guess I am just a stupid teenager,
And I guess I am just afraid to admit it.
But I am trying my best to do it better later,
I just hope I don't mess up so bad I'm unable to be fixed...
