Days Gone By

I am a house
An abandoned house
With a deserted barn
I stand here,
Slowly falling apart
Windows breaking
Staircase shaking
With every step
A visitor makes
They all notice
The pale, yellow dress
The mistress was supposed to wear
That day before
The days went by
Cracks in my floor
And on my sides
Ache still
Of what is left of me
And weeds grow
In these holes
Mice run through my attic
Birds sit
On my roof, watching
Across from me
A school bus rolls by
Drops off
A family
Someday
Their house
Will be like me
And my barn
Alone
I only have now,
Memories
Of what happened
As days go by

Inspiration: an old house that resides down the road from me. the yello dress is still hanging on its hook on the bedroom door.
