Mockingbirds

The prisoner yeah, she’s in there and here you are looking in
Don’t you ever wonder what she was or whose she’s been?
I know what your thinking that it’s a pity she’s in there

But honestly you don’t care you never will
You’ve got me wrapped around your finger and Honey, I’m wound tight
Just because the caged bird isn’t dead doesn’t mean its not slowly dying

Losing its hope, its wings to fly
I know I’d give it all away just to be able to die
Being caged and chained by your eyes and your twisted lies
It’s really just an excuse for a lonely demise

If I left turned into dust, you wouldn’t cry you wouldn’t mourn
You just turn on your heels and walk out the door
Sigh and say “it’s not that bad, there will always be more”

How the hell can you do this?
Keep a bird even though she’s ready to fly
I’ve seen the errors and know why I’m stuck
But I’ve become tired of begging you to let me go

I shouldn’t have to, I should be able to leave
Get up and scream
I’m not yours I never should have wanted to be
You are the mistake, your flat out cruel

And I don’t know about you
But if you were stuck like me
I know for sure you wouldn’t want to be
You’d try your hardest to run away
Try your damnedest to get out of that place

But your not stuck, your looking in
Giving pity where it’s not wanted
Just let me go and I promise I’ll never come back

When your bound and stuck
Hurt and broken
Dying doesn’t seem like that bad of a trade
For the chance to be free to get out of a prison

A bird will fly when given the chance
But a girl may be to afraid to leave
What she thinks everything’s supposed to be
For something better something real
The feeling from you it was never there
They were just words to mask the truth
The words you said they hurt
Actions you did made them even worse

So the bird will fly
But without guidance the girl will die
She’ll fall off her course and get turned around
Eventually she’ll have to fall to the ground
