A Light Once Dark (continuation of An Angel by the Sea)

After the angel had faded away,
On the ground the demon lay.
He looked up at the clouds above,
Wondered what it was like to love.
In the clouds he saw her eyes,
and thought of all his nasty lies.

But then a light appeared to him,
Clear as day, though very dim.
Appeared to him the angel did,
That little angel, the angel kid.
The very angel that had just died,
Came floating over the ocean’s tide.

Her pale blonde hair held a silvery glow,
her lilac eyes looked to and fro.
However, something was amiss,
Her soul no longer held pure bliss.
Her halo wasn’t atop her head,
She’d dressed in rags that lay in shreds.
Her wings no longer filled the sky,
Her back was bare; she could not fly.

She looked at him, then gently said,
“I forgive you, my misled friend.”
He didn’t feel his former glory,
“I have been sent to purgatory.”
She said this with no trace of hate,
She knew the outcome of her fate.

He wondered why she would forgive,
When he no longer let her live.
Heaven would no longer let her in,
She committed an unforgivable sin.
Coming to earth was a mistake in its own,
And now she’s plagued with being alone.

She gave him a smile ever so small,
She whispered, “Even angels fall.”

Something then swelled within his heart,
something he’d thought was ripped apart.
He knew exactly what it was,
he was feeling the gift of love.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered quietly,
As she faded back into the sea.
He knew just what he had to do,
He had to follow her virtue.
He threw himself into the sea,
The demon drowned, and then was free.

Heaven would not embrace the boy,
For demons were not granted joy.
He knew that hell would show disdain,
For his betrayal he could not explain.
So he turned to the remaining place,
Where his angel waited in her grace.
Their lost souls joined in purgatory,
Trapped forever, in love and glory.
