Specks Of Sand

In his hands, he holds a pile of sand
Each speck representing a heart.
The hearts of all the girls, he has received them from

He holds a whole pile of sand
but has given his own speck to a girl,
Rejecting the others

He searches for that same girl’s speck,
In his pile, hoping and believing
He continues through the pile
Taking out the ones he does not desire

Carefully and gently, placing them down on the beach
Or occasionally he would toss it harshly
But some would cling on to his hands
Those hearts would not give up, would not let go

He could easily brush them away,
But he does not dare
Because somewhere in the pile,
He’ll find the heart that belongs to the girl that holds his.

The girl who gave her heart to him
Like all the others
But never got a reply
He wasn’t sure it was really happening

So now, he’s checking again.
Is this real?
Is it a dream?
He asks himself

He continues the routine
Searching night and day
When finally, he finds it
Right before dawn, one night

He looks at the significant piece of sand
The piece surrounded by the clinging
And places the last speck willing to let go softly on the ground
The one that belonged to one of the many girls he’s rejected

Just then, the sun appears over the horizon
A beautiful sight, making his eyes burn
He squints and gazes at the sun in awe

He looks back down at the sand in his hand
The one that belongs to the one he loves
And it’s perfectly cut up angles allows it to sparkle with the sun

This beautiful piece of sand
This beautiful sparkling heart
Belonging to this beautiful person
