Social Rules

I’m in this large crowd,
But I’m not allowed
To run and scream
Or eat ice cream
They’d think I was a kid.
So what if I’m a kid?
I want to join their game,
It wouldn’t be the same.
But I have to be responsible,
I have to be proper and able.
I have to be the quiet, mature adult here,
There isn’t a way for me to be a kid here.
Why are all social rules the way they are?
You should be allowed to be who you are.
Sometimes I wish I was in a different society.
A place to avoid this onslaught of social insanity.
All of these social rules are silly restrictions,
We need to band together as the contradictions.
Together we are strong.
Even if they think we’re wrong.
We can break all of these stupid constrictions
We can’t be held back by the regulations.
So, come on and join me,
And then we can break free!
Together we can’t be slow and meek.
Maybe it will show them to be weak.
But we have to do it together.
We can’t do it without each other.
So help me break the chains that bind,
And come on and express your mind!
With each other we can do this.
Make them stop and listen to us.
I believe we have the power,
And all they can do is cower.
It isn’t the time to flip a dime.
This is surely our time to shine!
