Ignore the Dread

Look at the dark, dark sky
Then please attempt to hold back a cry.
It’s depressing enough without your tears,
But I can’t speak too fast before the first appears.

I’m sorry this isn’t what you expected.
I didn’t expect to feel so unprotected.
The wind is blowing that cold, cold breeze.
My jacket slips off and my lungs begin to freeze.

I’m trying with all my will to stay warm,
But these stained blankets just keep getting torn.
The water is freezing right before my eyes.
This darkness now begins our demise.

There’s no way to escape the cold.
You felt better filled with the lies they told.
At least that kept some hope inside.
Now all hope is just denied.

There’s only one person to care about.
They help to remove all the sorrowful doubt.
Every night you both crawl up into bed,
Smiling with cracked lips and ignoring the dread.
