Under a Northern Sky

Under a northern sky a flag skims the ground
Forgotten on the flagpole, the wind makes empty sounds
Another in a closet, one they used to fold with care
Is crumpled up and humbled, they're forgotten that it's there

What have we done, what have we become?
Everything's changing and we're so far gone
We've had our day in the sun, but it came at a cost
And I wonder if we'll ever get back what we lost

Under a northern sky students talk over the bell
Instead of being proud now, they wish it all to hell
Forgetting all their freedoms, forgetting what we've won
They abuse what they've been given, wishing we were done

What have we done, what have we become?
Everything's changing and we're so far gone
We've had our day in the sun, but it came at a cost
And I wonder if we'll ever get back what we lost

Under a northern sky, a place where you can speak your mind
Where we've weathered hurt and hatred, so I know that we'll be fine
So learn to love what you have, open up your eyes and see
This place might not be perfect, but it's not the worst to be

What have we done, what have we become?
Everything's changing and we're so far gone
We've had our day in the sun, but it came at a cost
Still I know that we're gonna get back what we lost
