God Forsaken Life

She goes to school every day
says hi to people who call her names.
She walks with pride, a mask she wears
and walks on by when people stare.
Her past is like a book read aloud
made of facts like dirty words,
and she’s the only one who knows
of the secret scars and debts she owes.
Miss popular is a skank
did you know she has a disease?
Her father had raped her
she’s such a sleeze.
Her mothers an addict
and left when she was five.
Oh, haven’t you heard?
Her sister took a swan dive.
She cuts her self silly
and smokes like a chimney
pays money for sex,
she’s so, so skinny.
Her teachers are blind to the pain she hides
and she keeps on living in this God forsaken life.
The child was a mistake, her mother would say
that someday, the bitch would pay.
You see apparently she ruined her mothers life
as the line of cocaine, so stale, is inhaled.
Eyes red, and a bottle in hand
she reaches up for redemption;
for justice to the hell she’s in.
But there’s only one thing she can think to do
as she says for her father, “You’ll only be missing you.”
and says to her sister, “baby, I’ll see you soon.”
A shaky hand, so cold and clammy
holds a gun to her head, looking as shiny as a penny.
She whispers goodbye to the lie she lived
and smiles, cause she knows that she soon will win.
And looking up to heaven she pulls the trigger tight,
her body falling limp in the dim room light.
And no one will notice.
And no one will care.
No one will miss her,
the problematic girl.
So broken and lost inside
no more living in her God forsaken life.
