Dead Communication

The sun's rays shine through the windows of a girl
Who is asleep on a bed full of sorrow;
She flinches and blinks her eyes from the brightness of the light
And looks around her room in dismay.

She wearily sits up from her bed
And rubs her eyes sleepily;
She stands up and drags her body to the bathroom
And she glances at the reflection on the glass.

She sees a girl who had eyes that speak of sadness
And the smile on her face hides the frown that she truly feels;
Her cheeks stained from tears and her nose red from crying,
The reflection stares back at her like a cold statue.

She looks away from the mirror
And heads to her closet full of clothes;
She opens it wide and looks at a dress
The dress that she wore for her father's funeral.

She stares at it longingly
And holds out her hand to touch it;
She carefully picks it up
And softly strokes the cloth.

The color of the dress was pale blue
Like the ocean mixed with sand;
She wears it over her body
And it fits her perfectly.

She goes towards the door
And turns the doorknob silently;
There she meets her brother
Standing by the doorway waiting for her.

She bends her head low
Her brother slowly reaching for her hand;
He gently squeezes her fragile fingers
And whispers a reassuring word in her ear.

She nods her head with more sincerity
Like a weight has been lifted from her shoulders;
She curves her mouth into a smile
And they both visit their mother in a locked-up asylum.
