Irish Eyes

Mama, I saw him today
The one that I shall marry.
His eyes are clear just like stained glass
They show the pain he carries
His hair is dark, like chestnut brown
But his eyes are what I love.
Mommy, where'd he get those eyes?
They are all that I've dreamed of

Oh, child, he has Irish eyes
They've seen shores of green and gray.
He was born in life and death at once.
Eyes that skip the month of May.
They're cold and crisp, but full of life
New birth sprouts from their core.
They bear to you both love and strife,
None less, and nothing more.

He's graced the shores of Ireland
Mother, for his essence reeks
In each castle, harp and stoney wall
And on the crumbling beach.
Mother, I feel close to him
When rain pours down the trees.
For there's water in his ice blue eyes,
A sad that never leaves.

Yes, child, those are Irish eyes
Of mystery they reek
They're hidden and exposed at once
Not but beauty do they seek.
They reflect the souls that come and pass
And at the breaking dawn
They come and dance in maiden's hair
Across the pure green lawn.

You see, my dear, the air is crisp
Inside his pure blue eyes.
There fairies dance and pipers play.
Inside him are no lies.
I can't help but feel safe in there
Where all the fairies fly
For I will be protected
Inside his Irish Eyes
