It Hits Only So Deep

Looking down a shaded path,
Darkness engulfs ones soul.
An ominous chill of wrath,
Plunging into a deathly hole.

Living life in eternal darkness,
Traveling along a bleak horizon.
Watching as the world moves past,
Unseen, unheard, unloved, alone.

Painful memories return,
Devouring their very being.
Making ones stomach churn,
Thoughts of constantly fleeing.

Wishing to find a guiding light,
To leave this hurt behind.
A hand is brought into sight,
Letting their fingers entwine.

Looking up into their eyes,
A face so gentle and kind.
Now feeling a bit shy,
A smile no longer confined.
